Troublesome

Journal Entry: Fri Apr 20, 2007, 2:14 PM

I'll start this journal entry, my first in 5 months, with a bit of 2Pac lyrics (which, oddly enough, isn't unusual for me to do) from Troublesome:

"Shit ain't changed since my last rhyme

The crime rate ain't declined"

That's how I feel about deviantART these days. What's changed? A few little things here and there. I can set my mood on each individual comment?! Yeah, because that's necessary.

And the crime rate hasn't declined at all. The crimes are being committed against you, the user, by the people who make the decisions about this place. They're adding features you don't really need rather than fix bugs that have been known about for years. YEARS. We're not talking days, or weeks here folks.

It's sad for me to see deviantART like this. It's like a good friend who's gone down the wrong path in life and as much as I had tried to help in the past, he just won't do the right thing. So I gave up. And maybe I'm a quitter in some people's eyes, but I'm not the only one. I've seen too many great people and deviantART enthusiasts take off over the last few years to not notice.

Lastly, I just want to say that I've been sticking with flickr lately for all my photos, and for featuring design work I like. Also, my personal site, patrickhaney.com, has been redesigned recently and is still a work in progress. You can keep up on the latest in my life over there.

Am I ever coming back here? Who knows. Never say never (even though that's an oxymoron, because you're saying "never" right there in that statement). But right now, I'm staying away. And look... almost 4,000 deviantMESSAGES. Ouch.

I'm curious about what you all think...

Should I start becoming more active at deviantART again?

"It's like a good friend who's gone down the wrong path"

I find that to be a very good description! I'm still here though, but I don't know for how long. Maybe another year or so.

Hope you're doing good.

Me too.

HOWEVER, though I may not find myself as enthusiastic about dA as I used to be, I still dig the crap out of the good friends I met here. You are one of those, man. SHOTGUN!

I've just now started a small comeback of sorts. You are correct in saying that many of the underlying things that happened are still a problem, but it's hard to lose hope in the community.

If I can't find my place here again, I think I may just stick around to see how things end up. Just out of curiosity.

Words that have been echoed in my mind and on the pages of many old-timers. I guess it's really happening.

Hey mate, I know how you feel. I hardly post any work here at all anymore.

By the way, I still have an old button of your website on my site (sebasvandenbrink.com). I get around 500+ fresh hits a month now. Apparently I forwarded 133 people to your site via that one button. :)

I'm here mostly for my friends and for the good art that is still around, if you take the time to dig for it. :hmm: But yeah, the upgrades to the core dA system seemed to dry up shortly before dAv5 launched, and it's telling that there has been hardly anything thrown out for Beta Testing since them. :( It's particularly annoying that the Message Center, DeviantWatch, Friends management and Notes haven't been touched at all, and I think that all of those areas could use some changes to make them more manageable.

Who's actually in charge of Dev work now? I know that Lolly is supposedly in overall charge of Community Development, but he just seems to be focussing on the Community aspect, and keeping people happy. :hmm:
