The Comment Revolution: Part 2
The Comment Revolution Progress: Slow And Steady
My Crazy Life
Things slowed down a little with this movement, but we are very much active. My life has gotten so busy over the last week that I haven't had a ton of time to do things, but I'm trying to fit them in here and there. Be patient, for work has a stronghold on my life at the moment.
Also, I'm moving at the end of the month. This means that in my very little free time I have to pack, arrange for transportation of my things, make sure I have heat and electricity on move in, arrange for cable and internet installation, and clean my current apartment before the end of next weekend. It's a little crazy right now, but things will get back to normal in June.
Where We're At
I'm still receiving a ton of feedback on the last two journal entries which is quite uplifting. Most of them are positive and have suggestions on how to make this work. Please feel free to continue sending us your ideas.
Right now I'm in contact with *
ivyc, *
inziladun, `
coshdaddy, and `
justthorne about how we plan on shaping this idea into reality. *
ivyc is going to be starting on the "critique user guide" soon along with help from other sources, though right now she's on vacation. `
leodadominico has given us permission to use his journal entry on commenting (a very useful resource) for reference in our own complete guide.
Through recommendations I've found quite a few other great commenting deviants, including a newcomer who just joined in the last few weeks.
Recognition
Once again I'd like to recognize two deviants who have been outstanding with comments over their short stay here at deviantART.
~
astrild joined deviantART only 10 days ago, yet she's left a mark on this community like no other in that short amount of time. Though most of you have not even heard of her, her comments rate as some of the best this site has ever seen. They're so long, you'll think you're reading a news article and not a comment.
If you've ever received a comment from ~
ladymysti, chances are you noticed her. Another deviant who's comment length rival that of a short novel, her words are detailed and helpful. She's not the most popular deviant nor does she have many followers, but she's got the kind of commenting talent we like to see in our deviants.
These two wonderful community members have received a
1 month subscription to deviantART in thanks for their great work. Congrats to both of you!
Moving Along
As far as moving on with things goes, we're proceeding slowly but surely at the moment. I'm bound by work and moving right now, so don't expect too much from me until June. Until then I will be updating things and talking with the other leaders of this revolution to try and decide which direction to head with it.
Thanks again for everyone who's supporting us here. I know it's a small gesture, but every little bit counts. Education is our primary tactic here, just be sure of that. We need to share the value of good comments with all of the community!

Devious Comments
myeah haven't been really able to do much for the revolution lately.. (exams)
still very curious on how this will turn out
This is indeed very encouraging.
Ever thought of making it a news article of sorts, to boost commenting incentive? (Or has this already been discussed?

S . . . . .
Thought about it? Yes. But we're not really ready to publish this sort of thing yet to the whole community. Without a thought out direction and plan, it'll look like just a bunch of elitist comment snobs trying to get some attention. That's not what I'm after.
I think I may post it to the forum though to get some support and ideas. I know many people may never see it in my journal. Not everyone is a *splat lover.

No problem, I understand. My life is pretty crazy right now. I have about 20 things on my "to do" list that I just can't get to until after I move. I hope June is a slow month, because I need to start playing catch up.
Me too. I think the overall reaction will be good, though we can expect that some people will not be happy with this plan. We all know that many people come to deviantART just to browse and have no interest in critiquing (sp?). That's fine though, I have no problem with that. I just hope they realize we're not trying to force them into our ideal or out of the community.

yeah true , a lot of people think this is about punishing people who give bad comments , while we want to reward those we give good comments and leave/ignore those who don't
mm , maybe because people always have been and will be afraid of revolutions/evolutions
This is precisely what I would like to communicate to people. It's not about punishment. It's not about yelling at people who don't leave more than a one line comment.
Besides, there will be no bloodshed in this revolution.
